altynai's review against another edition

DID NOT FINISH

There were some interesting facts, but it became a drag after some time. I wish it was more concise, less words, more fomulas, less "let me entertain the crowd".

I loved the author's previous book "How to Not Be Wrong". This book wasn't as entertaining. It also took examples from topics that I've worried about for the last two years - COVID and elections - and kept coming back to them. It made it hard to enjoy the book when it kept triggering concerns on these topics.

I really enjoyed the first half of this book but as soon as he started about politics it went down hill. It wasn't that what he was discussing wasn't interesting in its own right, nor that I disagreed with him, it just wasn't really about math anymore. The last few chapters were a lot of background about gerrymandering and very little math. It's too bad because I found the rest of the book fascinating. It introduced me to a lot of cool new concepts and made me laugh out loud frequently. I'll definitely read How Not to Be Wrong.... and cross my fingers he stays more focused on math in that one!
