This volume shows Natasha choosing to face the future head on instead of trying to remove all the red in her ledger. Choosing the Avengers over S.H.I.E.L.D. I guess means choosing to do good with a team with a family so she wouldn't be in a position again of morally gray areas alone. However the series failed to prove how big of a threat Chaos is like every other evil groups in Marvel Universe. But it's good to know how far she'd gone in those early days as a KGB spy.

I am definitely sad to see this run come to an end, but I do love how it left off. Natasha is still a big mystery, but that's her character and she will always stay that way. We saw a lot more of the cold hard assassin in this volume as well as the beginning and end of it.

I will definitely be looking into more of Noto's work because his art continues to wow me, and Edmondson's story-telling is still one that I want more of, even if it is with different characters.

Black Widow finally goes head to head with her new enemy, the mystery "Chaos" organization which has been discretely murdering and controlling large portions of the world without S.H.I.E.L.D.'s knowledge.

Not a bad conclusion but really in the same "meh" category as the rest of the series. I just never felt like Black Widow grew in any way as a character or felt like anything other than a cardboard cutout. Maybe I've been spoiled by Brubaker and Rucka but this is just....not that great. It's certainly less than Widow deserves. The end story which shows Natasha's origin was the best part of the entire series and it wasn't even part of the main story. Guess I'll just have to go re-read Velvet to get my kickass spy fix.

I just couldn't get into this volume. The Chaos story just didn't grab me. I enjoyed the January story as it was a glimpse into her past. The art was for the most part spectacular.

I had been really enjoying the last two Black Widow solo comics. However, this comic didn't do much for me in the way of plot. This volume starts closing in on the villain that Widow has been chasing and eluding to in the first two volumes. While, the reveal of the villain is pretty interesting in premise, the overall execution of how widow deals with said villain gets muddled up somewhere along the way.

There were many jumps in the story that threw you around to different characters, back to Black Widow, then back to her past. Because of this I felt like I was missing out on crucial plot line. At some point I wasn't quite sure what was happening with Widow in the present. One second she is fighting the bad guy the next she is in a boat with her cat. I may be over exaggerating a little here, but I think it gets the point across of how I felt thrown around at the end.

I can also say I don't think that even Nathan Edmonson has a clear idea of how Black Widow should be portrayed. maybe that is the point because she is a spy and closely hides her past and feelings. But this doesn't make for a good protagonist, if readers don't get the sense that they understand and can find something in common with her. In one scene I feel like I can connect with Natasha when she shows her vulnerable side and then she completely changes in the next chapter, does something infuriating and makes you lose sympathy in her.

I think there is alot of potential here, the great art style helps tremendously, but if the character development doesn't actually start developing it will be hard wanting to continue with this series.
