Ian McDonald's "Driftings" was definitely the winner of this bunch. It was a darkly beautiful and evocative piece on the idea of creating art from the broken pieces of other people's lives and memories. A bit of horror to it, but nothing overwhelming -- just something to add to the darkness.

"Variations on Bluebeard..." was okay but nothing to write home about. Interesting ideas but too confusing overall for me.

Yoon Ha Lee's "Effigy Nights" was full of fascinating concepts but the short story form didn't seem to do it justice. I was left seriously wanting. It felt more like a world-building sketch in a universe with much more to come. Lee's writing was lyrical and lovely as usual, though.

As always, I enjoyed the non-fiction pieces though none of them were QUITE what I'm interested. Still, who doesn't love bite-size bits of knowledge. :)

Another nice job.

Both, the ephemeral life of effigies. This less sad, because not from the effigies' perspective.
