In my opinion this is Vernes best literary work. It’s amazing to see his illustration of class and environmental consciousness then be like oh the savage sperm whale is a natural killing machine with no value, and that indigenous folks are savages. It’s just wild to see such development in class consciousness mixed in his the dogma of the time.

I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. Looking at Nemo as a character was especially interesting seeing as he was so mysterious. I really liked the narration and style although there was definitely some over-explanations of the deep sea creatures.

An interesting tale, little disappointed with the outcome at the end. The book certainly fires the imagination but it was not quite as good as I expected.
