Omg eeeeendlich hab ich es zu Ende gelesen! Diesen kleinen Wälzer gab ich save 5 Jahre vor mir her geschoben und immer nur paar Kapitel gelesen. Dabei ist es so spannend und lehrreich und auch echt einfach zu lesen, wenn man mal drin ist. Total faszinierend, wie viel Naturwissenschaft und Technik über die Meere, Unterwasser und die Welt mit eingebaut ist. JV einfach krasser Autor, wie er das wohl damals recherchiert hat? Die Stelle, wo sie im Eis gefangen sind und wo sie mit Tauchausrüstung Atlantis und die Unterwasservulkane erkunden sind mir besonders im Gedächtnis geblieben.
Really enjoyed this, only slightly let down by the fact he pauses to list species of fish for pages at a time
A great adventure filled with long somewhat inaccurate lists of various sea life. Enjoying it really requires just skipping over these long sections naming the various flora and fauna to get to the really excellent story of the mysterious Nemo and his equally mysterious motivations for vengeance.

A science fiction classic that genuinely still holds up well. It’s a great read but I must say I’m glad I have a copy in the collection now

I personally thought it was an ok book, but I give it 4 stars due to what it represents. Jules Verne was an amazing writer for his time and a very big influence for the genre of science fiction. I can see many people not liking it because a lot of what the book does is just list a bunch of animals living underwater and characters don't exactly 'grow' neither you get to learn much about them.
I think this is a book that has to be read in context, and then it becomes really amazing. I found it more fun than exciting, especially in terms of the language and words used (I which I spoke French and could compare, apparently the French version is much better). In general, I think that if you are into Classics you'll appreciate the book even if you don't love it. Very easy read too.
J'ai trouvé Vingt mille lieues sous les mers très divertissant. J'ai essayé de mettre mon cerveau en monde XIXe siècle lors de la lecture pour mieux l'apprécier. Ce que j'ai le plus aimé c'est le personnage du capitaine Nemo. Cet homme est très mystérieux et remplis de contradiction. Il voue un énorme respect pour la nature mais n'hésite pas à exterminer des cachalot ou tuer un animal en voie d'extinction. Ce sont ces contradictions qui faisaient que j'aimais le personnage. Je trouve qu'il est tellement humain. Pour le reste, c'est de l'aventure à la sauce XIXe siècle. Si ce n'était pas des trop nombreuses descriptions de poissons tout au long du livre, j'aurais donné une note parfaite.
