If you loved The Selection series, you will love this book. Left with a little bit of a cliff hanger, but that just pushes you to want to read the next one. Strong characters, twists and turns throughout and all around good ya book.

I was a bit disappointed in the romance for this. The description made it seem like it would be this HUGE part of the book, but it got thrown in when the book was over halfway done. The romance felt too rushed and I wish it had been spread out throughout the book, and that Ash had been there in the beginning or at least a lot earlier on in the story. I am excited to see where the next book takes this though!

Sold bit of YA. Part ‘never met me go’ part hunger games - with powers! Enjoyed it more than I expected to!

1st read : 4⭐
2nd read : 3⭐

I loved this book the second time just as much as the first. I'm very glad the second book is coming out soon though since it left me with a huge cliffhanger. Will she end up pregnant with the Duchess's baby? Will she be able to repair her relationship with the boy she loves or at least lusts after? Will she ever see her family again? Will her best friend Raven be alright? Hopefully these questions will be answered in book 2! :)

“Hope is a precious thing, isn’t it,” she says. “And yet, we don’t really appreciate it until it’s gone.”

What a unique, yet familiar read. I enjoyed it and thought it was entertaining- it had some holes in it especially in the world building /plot department but it grabbed my attention enough to want to try the next book.

When I first started reading it I got major Handmaids Tale mixed with the Hunger Games vibes. This didn’t bother me because I like when authors take inspiration from other books and make it something of their own- especially when it’s books I have enjoyed in the past. This world was really strange though, and honestly at time’s uncomfortable to read but- I’m pretty sure that’s the point. It’s not inappropriate, it’s just dysfunctional and demented which makes it perfect for the dystopian genre.

The characters were decent, Violet the main character grew on me the more I read and the love interest in the book isn’t my favorite maybe because it was insta-love and we don’t really have enough time in this book to get to know him. One character in particular reminded me of Cinna from the Hunger Games. It was like he jumped into this book but was just named Lucien instead. My favorite character in the whole book so far is Garnet and he literally has like 5 lines in the whole book. He’s mysterious and obnoxious and I can not wait to learn more about him after that twisted cliffhanger!

This book is like the lovechild of "The Selection" by Kiera Cass and "Eve" by Anna Carey. Really! It's got the best of both of those books, but at the same time it's unique and original.
Violet is a good main character. She's kind of naive and a tiny bit... stupid(?) sometimes, but at the same time she's very clever and strong-willed. She sees right through the royals' game and she's not willing to play it. The only thing I didn't love about this book was the instalove. But at the same time I could see why it was so instantly, especially because those feelings are all new to Violet and she wants to explore everything right then and there.
The ending of this book waS A MASSIVE CLIFFHANGER THAT I DID NOT SEE COMING AND I'M NOT SURE HOW TO COPE WITH THIS NEW INFORMATION. Phew. I need the next book right now, please.
