Great book about the Hells Angels, no glamour, just harsh reality
No puedo decir que me haya gustado demasiado. Parece más un artículo alargado excesivamente.
Sí se ven las consecuencias de la exageración y la búsqueda de audiencias por los medios de comunicación, que suelen hacer más mal que bien, ya en 1965.

Man drove his BSA really fast and took a good beating to write this book, least we can do is appreciate it. If you like the Dr, you'll like this book.

I was drawn on by the mystery that surrounds Hunter S. Thompson as a character unto himself; yes, he's a cool guy and he does all the drugs, but God is he a difficult narrator to follow. His exoneration of the Hell's Angels lies in the difficult-to-get-behind defense of their alleged rape, which in some sentences he contradicts and admits they're capable of, is centered in a conviction that he knows the media and they simply overhyped what is just an apparently upstanding motorcycle gang. The schizophrenic bouncing from one idea to another is very Bohemian, sure, but it means ideas aren't followed to any particular conclusion. Characters inspired by Hunter S. Thompson might be more compelling to me, i dunno. Spider Jerusalem, Johnny Depp's acting as the guy, etc...

Great book, unsurprisingly, from the great Hunter S. Thompson. HTS's Gonzo style of journalism is superb, and beautifully mixes journalistic exposition with evocative and thrilling narrative. It really allows you to get absorbed into the scene that HTS is writing about.
The Hell's Angels have an extremely complex culture and morals. HTS's portrayal of them is extremely interesting, and feels very honest. Very curious to read other sides of it, to see how accurate Thompson was.

I thought this book was hilarious, only because I just imagine when it was received people just thought Thompson was a regular journalist. I think he probably just used it to fund his partying with bikers for a couple years and then wrote this over the top shock piece about it to scare suburbanites.
