Sometimes I’m in the mood to turn off my brain - not think too much abt anything and just strap in for the ride. This is that book for that LOL.

I was expecting a cliche run-of-the-mill unoriginal story but it surprised me. The two MCs were actl reply enjoyable to read about and they were definitely not boring/stale. I guess the most refreshing part would be that James is a villain in the story and he does rly cruel bad shit. I’m also rly glad that he doesn’t overstep his boundaries with Wendy (I mean he kidnapped her and locked him in his bar’s basement, but at least he didn’t hit her or anything…LOL the bar is so low, ok but to be fair he was reeling from the death of his father-figure, so it’s like excusable behavior??)

Wendy was surprisingly badass at times too, even tho she was supposed to be this sheltered innocent rich kid (Wah this type of character gets annoying RLY QUICKLY, esp if they’re particularly self-pitying and have zero self-esteem, so they’re constantly USELESS, but hey luckily she’s not like that!)

So basically James is Captain Hook and he is some sort of criminal mastermind who peddles drugs in the city. Wendy’s father is another criminal who wants to take over hook’s city (but she doesn’t know this at all). The story starts when hook uses Wendy to get to her father, but ends up falling for her instead. Tldr: Wendy realised her father is a complete asshole and shoots him, in a stand-off with James and his past abusive uncle’s son.

Admittedly liked this dark romance more than I expected. I thought I would always have James, but alas like Wendy, I could see the perks of his soft side.

I was intrigued by the Peter Pan spin-off but book was like reading a wattpad novel. Naive and inexperienced female main character meets bad boy male main character and all the rest ensues. Some interesting plot twists, but I did kind of have to convince myself to finish listening to the book about 75% through.

This was a good book! The smut definitely made up for the story. However, I would say this is medium smut. I really did like the characters in the story, but they kind of left me wanting more.

Really enjoyed most of the book, but Wendy and hook sharing a mother ruined for me

Maybe I've read too many slow burns recently, but I just felt like this relationship escalated like instantly lol.

This was a fun reimagining of Peter Pan.  Dark, thugs, modern and Wendy falls for hook.

Not deep, not insightful or stirring, but well done.  Fun to read with just enough spice.
