Ninth in the Love at Stake Series.

What can I say? Carlos is indeed an interesting character who, at the heart of it all, wants to save his endangered were-panther species. A noble and honorable desire, but he never expected to fall in love with a mortal woman.

I am happy that we are starting to get more and more of Sean Whelan back into the series. Slowly he is coming back in and making more of an impression than before. His hatred has increased since the last time he was mentioned it seems and I hope to see more of him as the series goes on. The fact that he loves his grandchildren and at the same time hates the man who fathered them is interesting.

What I like about this series is that we get another side to the story of Shanna and her family that we didn't get from the first in this series. Her sister, Caitlyn, is the woman Carlos falls in love with despite her being a mortal. Their attraction is immediate and intense from the start and it seems as though this could be the most interesting of the series.

Although I found this book both hilarious and touching (as all the books in this series have been) I also have to think that Carlos seemed to give in too easily. He wanted a were-panther mate and then succumbed to his desire for Caitlyn rather quickly. A more interesting twist would have been finding a were-panther woman who wanted nothing to do with him and encouraged him in his love for Caitlyn.

Although I do find it interesting that there are several different kinds of Were-animals out there other than wolves and panthers and bears (oh my!) but at the same time it seems like all animals could be a were-animal. Is someone running around on the night of a full moon turning into a were-hamster? That would be bizarre. At the same time I think it is cool that there are different animals than just wolves. We all need a little variety in our lives.

4.4 audiobook-
This was my favorite book in the series so far. Carlos the Were Panther finds his irritable irresistible cat nip of a woman and she has a snarky sense of humor. Cat jokes plus, I burst out laughing so many times my family members might have been considering my sanity. She was strong willed, unfaltering and quick with her lip. I liked her and would hang out with her any day.
I am not spoiling this read by telling you who she is, what happens or any other details. You know it will end in a HEA that is the authors style. You know it is a romance. Read it, enjoy is it a saucer of cream. :D

Fell flat to me. Loved the beginning but really didn’t explore MMC’s past or the five kids he adopted. I thought the kids would be featured more. Also, never touched on the trauma the kids were feeling. It was briefly mentioned and that’s it. No resolution! MMC kept mentioning how he needed to find a mate to be their mother but he didn’t even interact with them. There wasn’t even the classic end where the emotionally distant father realized he was wrong to keep them at arms length and expect a woman to handle their emotions!! 2.0 mainly for the kids! Don’t introduce traumatized kids if you aren’t going to do right by them!!

Another great book in the series. Kerrelyn Sparks is an excellent writer!!! The narrator for the audio book was very good, although she mispronounced some words. Mischievous is not pronounced mis-chee-vee-us!!! I hate when people do that.

I have not read all of the books in the Love at Stakes series. Which is fine as each one can really be read as stand alone novels. Although, I have to say that this book is probably one of my favorites. Instantly I fell for Caitlyn and Carlos. The best part was that Carlos is not a vampire but a were-panter. For a change in a vampire series, it was nice to have a different character type like Carlos. Plus, in a way it made more sense and it was more believable that Caitlyn would fall for Carlos. Caitlyn was just getting over her shock that her sister married a vampire and she was not so warm to the idea, so for her to have a love interest in a vampire would have been too predicable. The raw animal attraction was evident between Caitlyn and Carlos. Besides the storyline was a good one. Liked the ending.

Carlos and Caitlyn make a almost perfect couple. The problem is that she isn't a were-panther and Carlos is. His kind are rare and he could turn her but it's hard for someone to survive it. Another kicker is that Caitlyn is Shanna's sister and of course Whelan's daughter. He doesn't want her to be involved with the vampire crowd or even the shifters.
Caitlyn has a special gift with learning languages very quickly. And that makes her handy for Carlos to use in the jungles of other countries while he looks for more of his kind. They find a were-tiger community instead and some Chinese Vampires. Another set of bad vampires they have to fight off and things go bad quickly. But in the end, they are together for good.

Ninth book in the series. Honestly, I read it cos I've read eight books already, so why not? As per the previous in series, strong female characters who always end up quivering in their mate's presence... only in this book, its a were, not a vamp.
