This book was nothing at all like I expected but also everything I hoped it would be! I’ve never read something that made me think “whimsical fantasy” before but this one certainly takes the title. I love that Evangeline is naive due to hope and belief in love, but not so blind that she is unable to see when something is too good to be true. She constantly shows that she will put others first and only wants to believe the best in other, while also being willing to see what she has given someone too much faith. Also?? Jacks???? My problematic fave! I adore him in all of his self serving glory! This man has plans on plans on plans and I cannot wait to uncover more of them in the rest of the series!

Bonito, ligero y refrescante.

fun concept and world but I found myself less interested and engaged as the book went on. felt like a collection of tropes with no strong through line. would’ve been fine with a collection of tropes since it was kind of expected given that its fairytale based but didn’t do enough to actually finish the trope and make the next trope make sense.

this book had me entranced from the very beginning. I love eva and I love her conflicting feelings for jacks. I have felt that i’ve been in a bit of a reading slump recently but I didn’t feel remotely unmotivated while reading this.

eva’s determination to see the hood in everyone and everything is something to behold, honestly. even when it comes to surly, deceptive Jacks, she STILL wants to believe there’s good in him. how these two transpired throughout this book was so effortless, and yet there’s still so much conflict.

I think I felt the most heartbreak when Eva and Jacks had to spend the night in the crypt, and Eva snaps at him when he’s being condescending on why she fell in love with Luc. listening to the audiobook, rebecca soler does such a great job on portraying emotions that I could feel jacks surprise hurt and eva’s frustration.

this series, and caraval, I can see myself reading again in the future, i’ve enjoyed it so much thus far.

I did not expect to be at the end so quickly. The fates being so unpredictable made the book very entertaining. I had some suspicions, but the twists and turns had me second guessing myself. I wish that the author would've gone a little more into detail on the 6 weeks that Evangeline was stone since thats when all the fates return and wreaked havoc. It felt kinda glossed over/rushed. I genuinely hope the next book is just as good.

I JUST realized that this author wrote Caraval......which is crazy cause I hated Caraval and when I was reading this one I was like this is kinda what I expected Caraval to be. Wild.
