This is the best book ever written and if anyone has anything better i have money for you

I’m so glad I picked up this book entirely by accident. I read almost exclusively fantasy genre, but had decided to try something new. I had no idea what to expect going in, but I was hooked immediately. Before I was halfway through, I knew it would be one of my favorite books. And having just finished, I realize I was correct. An absolute masterpiece. Even if you don’t like or haven’t tried westerns, give this a read.

“I’ve never known fictional characters so intimately” said one reviewer and I can’t think of anyway else to put it. Quite simply the greatest novel I’ve ever read, and I’m not sure how to feel now that I finished it. For almost a month I’ve lived in Lonesome Dove and then on the trail with the Hat Creek Outfit, through trials and tribulations, through small victories and death. There’s something more romantic about this book that I’ve never read in anything else before, but there is also a sad and tragic nature of this book. I can’t believe that after 858 pages I wish I had another 858 to go. My tragedy is now that I’ve finished this masterpiece and can no longer read it with fresh eyes.

“Our forefathers had civilization inside themselves, the wild outside. We live in the civilization they created, but within us the wilderness still lingers. What they dreamed, we live, and what they lived, we dream.” - TK Whipple
