I'm a touch conflicted on this one. There were so many parts of this that I think are stronger than book one. Especially some of the character arcs/side stories we take on.

But there are also a lot of things that really work against this book. The time skips are realllllll weird. There are a lot of instances where events occur, then we spend what feels like a chapter summarizing those prior events we just read about in retrospect from some random future perspectives. The worldbuilding is also lacking in this one. The geography is so baffling even with the map included (quite frankly the map is terrible but I blame the 80s for that lol).

Overall I'm still really enjoying these, book 2 just wasn't as good as book 1. But gosh do I love the D&D storytelling and I really love the characters. They feel really well realized.

Not as much fun as book one, kinda jumps around randomly in setting and timeline while feeling like it's skipping chunks that happen 'off scene'. But this is still very much a nostalgic comfort-read for me. Also, I forgot how much of a badass Laurana is.
