A sweet coming of age story that I had to buy after finding out the author is local to me! I loved seeing how she adapted Pitt, but more than that, how she balanced the family’s dynamic on a classic road trip, coming of age story
I couldn’t wait to finish another book I’m reading when my friendly bookstore told me Lulu and Milagro was available. What a lovely coming of age story. It acknowledges that immigrant parents are an added source of pressure, but centers the story on the sisters who need to break out of their family roles to become who they can be. I love that their mom is religious but wears tight pants. Those little details underscore why authentic voices matter.

Thank you so much to Harper Collins and Edelweiss for the opportunity to read this book!
I really enjoyed this one and found it really different to anything else I’ve read before - especially in the YA contemporary genre. The romance was brilliant but didn’t take over the story which I appreciated as I liked that the main focus was on sisterhood. The dual perspective between the two sisters was really well executed and I’ll definitely be reading more of Angela Velez’s books in the future.
My favourite character was definitely Lulu as I love reading about nerdy main characters… I can relate
