2.5 stars
It took me almost a month to read this book. I kept getting frustrated with the characters and their intentions, the whole plot in itself... I was either confused or perplexed with what was happening in the story and I had a hard time enjoying the book.
The only positive for me was the magic system/world that the author has created which I think is inspired in Czech mythology (not sure). I want to keep reading so I can learn more about that because there just wasn't enough in the first book.

1,5/5. I try recently to explore more YA, but the more I try the more I ask myself why go through that. Too teeny, too much high school day to day (that one was strong on that), slow pace, clichés and so on. I really go with and open mind, and I know I'm not the targeted public here, but I just can't find positive stuff or reason to want to read that. The paranormal/magic stuff look interesting, but just didn't get enough place. Anyway, not for me... sorry!
So many questions that are needed to be answered!
*Why is Edmund killing the Chosen Children aside from the wish to be supreme?
*Why is Joclyn so special?
*Where is her father? Why did he spell her name as Jocelyn? Was it an honest mistake or deliberate?
*What is the mythology behind the Chosen Children, the Skritek and that other word used to call Wyn's race that I can't spell nor pronounced?
*Is this a love triangle? Please say it ain't so. Ryland is sweet and a boyfriend you can bring home to your parents. But there is Ilyan who's...
*What happens now that they failed?
Tune in as I read the rest of the series this week before I post a review.

You'd be well advised to set aside plenty of time to read this book, because you'll want to turn page after page after page.
I could hardly put down this book once I started, and I found myself reading well into the night. This is one of the best stories of magic I've read since Harry Potter. Joclyn Despain (I'm not overly fond of her unusual first name) is an otherwise normal, though reclusive, young woman. Underneath her shell, however, lies some magical power she doesn't even know she has. This power seems to have been caused by a mark that forever changes her destiny. The mark on her neck causes turmoil between her parents. Joclyn's father eventually leaves, making her feel abandoned. This causes her to think of the mark as a curse, which is why she became a very reclusive teenager. During high school, Joclyn is labeled a weirdo and shunned by virtually everyone. Her hoodies and demeanor don't exactly make her approachable.
Joclyn does have only one really close friend, Ryland LaRue. He comes from a very rich family. His father Edmund is the owner of Imdalind Forging. That business is where the series name comes from. I thought that "Imdalind" would be the name of the magical people within this book. Anyway, you soon find that Ryland and Edmund are leagues apart.
One day, Joclyn receives a strange letter from her father. When he claims Joclyn has earned magical powers, she comes to the conclusion that he's lost his marbles. Nevertheless, soon after getting the letter, two mysterious figures join Joclyn's social circle. One of them's a fun, lively girl named Wynifred, AKA Wyn. She's a very likable character, the kind of friend you wish you had. Her introduction to Jocyln was pretty hilarious and one of the most original, unexpected introductions I've heard about. The other person who enters Joclyn's life is named Ilyan. At first, Joclyn's intimidated by him because he shows up at her classes and watches her. Everyone else seems oblivious to his presence. We later learn why that is.
The part where things really change is when Joclyn finally shows Ryland the mark she bears. Unfortunately, she has no idea that she's been living in the wolves' den her entire life (her mother works for the LaRues). Ryland knows what the mark means. Out of his love for her, Ryland risks his life in order to help Joclyn. However, she is gravely injured during the attempt to escape people who aim to kill her. Joclyn spends the next few weeks recovering, after which she's brought up to speed on what's happening. She takes the news of her magical power in stride, but is terrified by the fact that Ryland is being tortured. In order to save him, Joclyn commits herself to the teachings of Ilyan and his people, all of whom have magical powers. It turns out that Joclyn is sort of a "Chosen One," which is why Ilyan is willing to go to great lengths to protect her.
The magical society within this novel is quite well thought-out. There's one thing I found weird, though: Ilyan is king of the magical people, and thus has to be addressed as "My Lord". They also all know Czech, which is the language some of their magic is based on. Apparently, their kind hail from Prague.
Despite the fact I was riveted with this novel, I'm giving it 4.5 stars. It's excellent, but could still use some work. Rest assured, you won't be disappointed. If anything, you might find yourself reading Kiss of Fire the entire day. I'm so going to read the next books in the series.
4.5 stars - A stunning page-turner!

I didn't know what to expect going into this book and was presently surprised by the plot. You know something weird is going on, but don't really get the full scope of things until the action picks up..... a lot. The romance was high schoolish (lots of not quite kisses and mixed signals), but very cute and genuine. Ryland and Jos were willing to sacrifice so much for each other. There is a lot to comprehend when the truth comes out, but the author did a good job of not bombarding you with too much information at once. A mean cliffhanger though, but you, of course, knew it was coming.
'The time may soon come that my father breaks in all the way, and when he does, I won’t remember you anymore. When that happens, I will only be a danger to you. But just remember that I love you; I will always love you. And locked inside me somewhere, I will always be waiting for you.'
This book made in on my TBR as a recommendation from Benjamin A. from benjaminoftomes. It was free on kindle for a while, so I thought: Why not start reading it?
The book had a great synopsis, and I liked the writing style. Also, I liked Joclyn, our main character, from the beginning. The story has a great development, too. My thoughts when I was half-way through Book 1: I might have to continue reading this series?!
While reading the book, the reader finds himself kind of in Joclyn's position. We get to learn new things along with Joclyn, so we are just as confused as she is at the beginning. As some of the names and magic 'races' are in an unknown language it gets a little confusing from time to time. I would get the explanation but I never seemed to remember the correct words... :D
I really liked the plot, the development, the magic elements, and I will definitely continue reading this series at some point. :) ♥
This was an intriguing premise. The story flowed nicely and drew you in. I wasn't sure that it she had such an obvious scar behind her ear that she would realistically be able to keep it hidden for so long.

OMG I am SO conflicted about this book. It was just so hella trope-y, especially in the beginning and I almost DNFed it and I don't DNF books EVER so I continued reading and at times actually really enjoyed it, so...2.75 stars it is. I have book 2, not sure if I'll read it...
