I really liked the atmosphere of this and some of the elements were easy to guess but the length of the book matched well with that.
The setting of The Cruel Dark is really rich and atmospheric and I did enjoy the chemistry between Callum & Millie, I think perhaps as I listened to this in audio and didn't necessarily love the male narrator, I think maybe would have enjoyed it more if I had read a physical copy. That being said, the female narrator was enjoyable and whilst the male narrator wasn't for me, I still enjoyed the book. and the ending alone bumped it from a 3 star to a 4 star. The characters are flesh out and well-developed which is always something I appreciate in romances. A great debut and I will definitely be looking forward to more from Bea Northwick

3.5 stars. I enjoyed the story. I'd describe it as a romantic thriller. It was mysterious and ominous, and although a little slow in the middle, I still wanted to find out how it ended. It definitely picked up in the last 20% or so.
I think I would have liked it more if I read it with my eyeballs. The audiobook didn't captivate me. The FMC sounded like she was trying to have some kind of weird seductive voice the whole time. I had to speed it up quite a bit to get past it. And the MMC sounded really old when he's supposed to be in his 30s. The narrator's voice for the random car driver at the beginning of the story with the Scottish accent would have been better for the MMC

What a twisty ending!! This was dark and atmospheric with both Rebecca and Jane Eyre vibes! I really enjoyed it, as it was a book I had been anticipating! The writing is lovely and very descriptive, and I adore our main character. A gothic tale of mystery and romance!

Absolutely fucking incredible. I gasped so loud in the middle of my lecture class. Whoops. Worth it.
