SO. GOOD. The twist and turns that this book took me on was unfathomable when I first started the book. Found myself rooting for everyone involved!
even found myself rooting for the 'bad' guys
Found myself a new author to read!

A cute read, with plenty of emotional beats, and lots of trauma. The characters never go to therapy even though they desperately need it, which is a pet peeve of mine. And I don’t think the lovebirds really spent enough time together to be in love. More like friends who could try dating. Loads of content warnings on this one, as well.

This is pretty good although it’s really predictive, very, I mean the plot twist didn’t blow my mind at all because I just knew.
i honestly enjoyed reading this thing. It was cute, a little surprising, romantic, cute again, interesting. But I think a certain tipe of person would like it more than me , or at least someone who enjoys reading this cliche appearance things (the short girl, muscular guy, you know, the steriotope) that are considered hot now days. I don’t, but most people do. (So do you know, it’s not full of blondes and skinnie girls and that Kind of straight esteriotipes, I’m just saying that the book was always mentioning the fact that they had diferent highs and muscular masses and in my personal opinion is a little cringe and not realistic enough to be “cool” or sexy, just annoying)
Despite it, yeah, I would reccomend it, Jack was lovely and I actually loved the fact that hanna was able to fucking tackle him, that was awesome.
A good read

The author’s note at the end about wanting to write something light and hopeful and full of joy during the pandemic endeared me to this book a bit more.

This is the book equivalent of a Lifetime movie. Light and fluffy brain candy, but it’s sweet and there are worse ways to spend an afternoon.

I was a little disappointed, because with the premise, I hoped we were going to get a slow burn forbidden love story, with her as the tough but competent bodyguard, and him as the surprisingly sweet macho guy who’s not at all intimidated by her incredible skill and ability to save his life from real danger.

In the end, her being a bodyguard and him being in “danger”  is irrelevant for most of the story, and only plays into the set up and conclusion. There are *maybe* ten total pages where she’s effectively working as a bodyguard. And most of the time she doesn’t seem to be very good at even the basic “staying calm in stressful situations “ part of her job, despite us constantly hearing how great she is at her work.

The actual plot is instead just a contrived fake dating / forced proximity set up. It works fine and is cute, and the family and the setting are endearing, but fake dating as a trope always makes me roll my eyes. As in all uses of this trope, the justification for why they “have” to fake date is very stupid.

I also didn’t love the constant “Hannah’s not like other girls!” energy. She doesn’t like high heels! She doesn’t know how to put on eye shadow! Her nightgown is so unsexy! There is literally (no, really — LITERALLY) a “pick me” scene at thanksgiving dinner. Utter nonsense.

But it’s fine! Just let the cute book wash over your brain and reset you before you dive into another dark academia or whatever else is on your TBR. This is a perfectly fine way to take a breather.

This is almost 5 stars--I really enjoyed it. There were times when it felt a bit like the old trope of "she's not like other girls," which isn't something I like. That aside, it was a fun and enjoyable read. I like the characters and I loved that the female character was the bodyguard (honestly that's the whole reason I read it). I would have liked for her to showcase more of her bodyguard skills, but there were several moments where she did and it was fantastic.
