There’s something about the more recent Mary Balogh books that feels slower and less enjoyable. I want to like them more than I am at the moment

Admittedly I skim read this book, mainly the beginning and end while actually reading the middle.
A Bridgerton-esc book with a very appealing enemies to lovers trope and good romance.
The beginning was a little slow to start and I felt like the ending was dragged for almost 100 pages after the story felt finished. And while the romance was good overall, there was quite a bit of extra prose and ramblings thrown in.

I am so sad I didn’t like it because I used to love Mary Balogh, but lately I feel her books have become just repetitive, they talk and talk and think and think about the same thing and over, nothing really happens, and then why do we have to read about the grandparents POV, the book was long enough. And the MCs didn’t really do anything for me because the only thing they did was talk about the same incident for ages!
