I normally tear through books when in on vacation, but this took a while, mostly because I really savored each word. It was beautifully written and challenged me to consider the simultaneously stark and blurry line between science and religion.

A hard questioning of the value faith (among other things) disguised as sci-fi. Challenging and well-written, as is always the case with Art.

If you have not read this book, you MUST find a copy immediately and read it. It is classified as Sci/Fi but I would call is something along the lines of a spiritual anthropological warning tale set in the future. One of the most engaging and lovable main characters to appear in a long time.
adventurous dark sad slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

It's not gonna be for everyone due to the lack of hardcore action, but the fusion of religion, anthropology, and linguistics is beautiful.

Fantastically imagined alien world. My favourite form of science fiction--literary and character driven. Highly recommend.

I am going to need a minute or 5,000 to process this

I've had to put this book down for a while. It really gives me the willies. Its an amazingly written book, its just weird.

This is a book that is going to stay with me for awhile. Compelling narrative, relate-able characters, my favorite genre (dystopian-esque). Being a very non-religious person I still found that I understood where the main character was coming from. It was fascinating, even as it drew you closer and closer to the horrible calamity you knew was coming from the first chapters. It was horror presented without ham-fisted sentiment, which is hard to do.

I enjoyed this book from the moment I picked it up. Such an interesting and unique storyline. I personally do not like reading about assault and so that part was difficult as it is clear from the very beginning that some sort of horrific rape occurs. But that aside, I enjoyed it a lot!!
