It’s Tolkien, what do you want from me
It's very cool to see many iterations of the same story presented together in this way, especially since it was written in both poetry and prose. Christopher structured the book pretty effectively to show the evolution of the story but also add detail to the narrative as the book progressed. To some extent, I wanted more of the history of the story alluded to throughout the book, but that's already present in HoME, and this book accomplishes what it set out to do successfully.
Much like the The Children of Hurin, I could not get into this book.
I'm just looking for the magic of lord of the rings, or the Hobbit, and I know that's not fair. but I can't help it.

I really enjoyed this book. It's a bit dense in parts but very interesting to see how the tale of Beren and Lúthien developed over time. In particular the excerpts from The Lay of Leithian were beautiful reads and I would definitely love to read it in full some day.
Graphic: Death, Torture, Kidnapping, Grief, Death of parent, Murder
Moderate: Animal death, Body horror, Gore, Blood, War, Injury/Injury detail
Třetí dílo Johna Ronalda Reuela Tolkiena, které jsem měla možnost si přečíst v rámci své výzvy S Tolkienem rokem 2025, mě velmi mile překvapilo svou variabilitou a propracovaností. Skvělou redaktorskou práci na knize odvedl Tolkienův syn. Ten sebral všechny texty spojené s příběhem Berena a Lúthien a vystavěl z nich tak čtivé a podmanivé dílo. Ruku v ruce v jedné knize a v jednom příběhu jdou próza s poezií. V předmluvě je vysvětleno, jak bylo s texty nakládáno a co bylo potřeba udělat, aby vzniklo jednotné komplexní dílo.
