This book was gripping and had me reading even though many times I was disgusted by what I was reading. The revenge was awesome, the spice was spice, but I don't know the back end of the book bored me or at least left me feeling like I wanted more development. But I still devoured it whole.

📕Review: Beginning of book notes... "everything hurts". Every time I read this, I just hurt, even though I know the ending. HD Carlton has a way of writing heartbreak that I will never understand. She throws in these little nibbles of happiness/humor when all things are going to shit. Like chapter 13

Mama T and Z sitting eating chocolate chip cookies when he meets the Basilisk Brothers. It's a small win when this book can make me smile when it's so sad.

18. It will literally break you. and Chapter 22 will tape you back together.

The overall plot of the story was pretty well thought out and written. I didn’t really love the ending as it seemed it was fresh rushed. I also didn’t understand why she (the author) has this conflicting view on Christianity. Maybe she is conflicted internally? Not sure. But would not recommend to anyone unless they are okay with a pretty dark romance.
