Set in Middle East sort of vibe scene and culture which was fresh reading it for a change. Thought the plot to this was slightly slow at times with heavy world building moments but was still a great book.

3.5 stars.

I don’t do half stars but this book deserves it. It was so close to being 4 stars but there was just something missing that I can’t quite understand. I like the characters but I don’t think they were written well enough to allow the reader to bond with them to the best potential.

This book is refreshing - we don’t see much of Middle Eastern mythology? Folklore? and it was interesting to see it embedded so well in the book but, again, it wasn’t as good as it could’ve been.

Normally, I wouldn’t read the rest of the series after feeling this way about a book but I am interested to see how the characters develop and now that the world building is set (I hope) maybe there’ll be more time in book 2 to fill in what was missing in this book.

I found both Zafira and Nasir to be incredibly annoying and honestly I only liked Nasir. If I hadn’t bought this book a while ago I probably would have given up earlier. Bc I bought it I might come back but we’ll see.

This book confused me, but I liked it a bit. I want to see how the characters stories end but I am in no rush. There were lots of moments where we were with the characters in one setting and then in the next paragraph we were randomly in a building or somewhere new, the timeline or transitions were off for me personally. I also thought the breakthroughs the characters were having were great! But it seemed like the next page it was all undone. The ending got away from the author as well. Solid 3 stars, we will see about the second book at some point!

The world building was really slow in the beginning. And I was wondering when the story was going to get good. The characters introduced in the beginning of the story were bland and forgettable.

However, once both characters set on their journey for the quest, the story picks up. We are introduced to more intriguing characters.

Overall pretty enjoyable book.
