Warning: it literally says the words FULL FRONTAL NUDITY and talks about looking down your pants to see that “we are all the same.” Strange things in this one…

One thing that always amazes me about Dav Pilkey books is how people often look down on them for being low brow, but there are some really advanced ideas presented in the books for kids. For example, all of the Cat Kid Comic Club books have great lessons about SEL, growth mindset and dealing with challenges...intermixed with ridiculous stories and funny (ok, and sometimes slightly rude but also elementary humor) plots. Anyways, these will be popular with students and they should be because amongst the humor, kids will also learn valuable life lessons.

The thing that pushed this specific entry in the Cat Kid Comic Club series OVER THE TOP for me was the amazing "sensitivity read" of the publisher rejection.
BRILLIANT.
'Global sameness' fails to recognize that everybody isn't always given the same opportunites or chances in life. Furthermore, some lines in the story (i.e. 'just poke your nose beneath your clothes, you'll see we're all the same') could be seen as making controversial statements about Gender that may offend or diminish many readers
BRILLIANT.

It's a very cute, short, and light read. I laughed a couple of times and liked that photography/clay and was used in some sections of the book.
