I just couldn't get enough of this book. I didn't want it to end. The story was so immersive and kept me on the edge of my seat. I didn't even care that it was a slow burn. I was more invested in the build up, the story line, the mystery and wit. Probably my all time favorite of Keri's books. I wanna go learn some Cajun French now...

For a standalone this one was surprisingly good. I appreciate the fact that everything followed a steady line of events, although a bit rushed if I dare say but that’s understandable.
Btw I kinda have a crush on Thierry now.

Celeste is the ghost of the bayou. After running away when a traumatic event left her the only living member of her family 9 years ago, she’s finally going back to where it all began to get answers. There she meets Thierry, the man everyone fears, a killer for the cartel. He’s immediately taken by the fire in her eyes and the sass that comes out of her mouth. But, no one can know who she is, otherwise the demon that killed her family may find her again and finish what it started.

Keri Lake never disappoints me. She made me feel like I was in the Bayou while reading, had me jumping and turning the lights on when it got spooky, and crying in particularly sad parts.
Celeste and Thierry are the exact kind of couple I love to read about. Stubborn, passionate, all consuming. I loved every second.

Don’t even get me started on the plot twists. The GASP I let out near the end, I didn’t see any of it coming. I will be thinking about this book for a good long while.

Laissez les bons temps rouler! Let the good times roll.

4.5 ⭐️ I literally do not know what I just read. If plot twist was a book, it would be this one.It started off slow, I felt the beginning with Celeste’s background was a bit tedious but it quickly picks up after she goes back to her ancestral home.

Definitely a wild ride, there was no way to predict what would happen from one scene to the next. It had elements of ghosts and werewolves , which originally made me think this was a pnr but alas it wasn’t, murder, cartel, thievery etc. This book is DARKKK lemme tell you, I was scared shitless in a couple of scenes, especially the ones set in the bayou swamps *shiver me timbres*

The synopsis will have you believe this book is a romance, and you know, it kind of is but that’s only like 20% of the book. The rest is figuring out who Celeste is and why all these people know so much about her past when she doesn’t? It’s so much crazier than you will ever guess or perceive.

Wowwww this was so good it brought me out of my reading slump. First book I've read from this author and definitely looking to read more!

The suspense, mystery, and romance combines together so well. The mystery was mysterying because I was confused most of the time aha. The pacing was great with enough action happening that there really was never a dull moment and I just wanted to keep reading. I'm glad it wasn't stretched into a trilogy so that I could finish the book in a day. I thought the ending would be cliche and thought I had it all figured out but boy was I wrong and the twists were CRAZYYY.

Although it was a slowburn, I loved how it focused mostly on plot yet still had spicy moments. It really built up their individual characteristics and was worth waiting for when they finally got together after all the romantic tension. I appreciated the writing on how the FMC actually hated the MMC in their love/hate relationship bantering dynamics unlike other books that market love/hate where the 'hate' part is sometimes lacking.
