I listened to the audiobook with my two tween daughters. We were all riveted by this story, all the way through. The mystery of what had actually happened was compelling, and the lessons about how to handle difficult situations in the future gave us a lot to talk about.

If a girl defends herself against harassment, she is overly dramatic and an attention seeker, if she does nothing, she is weak and seen as an enabler to the harasser. What was she wearing? Did she smile at the perpetrator? It always comes back to the same old thing. Boys will be boys. Not in this story. Action is taken after someone new to the area names the bad behavior. Supportive family and a more aware community make the school safer but not a utopia. The characters were complex and realistic as was the resolution of the story.
