The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells was a very intriguing story about aliens who came to earth and not for the benefit of humans. Overall, the story kept me entertained and gave enough for me to keep reading, even through the less engaging chapters. I would still recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good sci-fi novel, and aliens from Mars.

It took me some time to get into the story and then it became gripping but the ending left me feeling cheated. It was like the story left you high and dry.
There were long paragraphs and sentences, unnecessarily detailed descriptions that felt like Mr. Wells was trying to maximize the word count. The story was gripping but simultaneously it was droning on and on about things I didn't care about.

kinda brought down by how horny the guy is for London - at times farcical with its perpetual listing of towns/burroughs/landmarks that, as someone who is not a Londoner, take away much more than they add.

Many such passages read like "As I turned down Woking Road towards Bushey, I saw in the distance King's Langley, Milton Queens, Long Buckby and Chipping Norton all aflame. Had the Martians yet conquered Harrow-upon-the-water? And my heart quaked for my cousins over in Plecklehempstead, Shoreham, Brewly and Barnham. Eventually I reached Twickening and passed on to Beaverhamwich."
