I won’t say I was disappointed by this book because I was engaged & enthralled for majority of it but the ending was underwhelming. I had expected more & it fell short.

Loved the slowness of the book despite the nature of the events. -0.5 because all the places mentioned went over my head and reduced my enjoyment a little

Surprisingly readable for such an old book (aside from having no clue where all of the random towns around London he’d mention were). Can definitely see how this is considered a seminal work in the history of science fiction.

I can definitely see why this is such an iconic story, this book is easy to read and very enjoyable.

Can be difficult to read if you're not in the mood and some of the phrases are so incredibly repetitive as to become annoying ("knot of people" - I'm looking at you). I watched the film with Tom Cruise when I was very young with my Mum, though (I think it was one of her favourites) and enjoyed it. It was nice to finally read the book, which is (I think) one of the best sci-fi publications out there, and the only one that has captured my attention to this extent. It's very much one of those books that deserves to be ranked a timeless classic, and the writing, storytelling and imagination that went into it is palpable, which is amazing for a book from 1898.
