I DNF this book around 20%. From the beginning the story or characters didn't draw me in, I just wasn't interested in what was happening. I also found the characters to be lean heavily into stereotypes/assumptions which I wasn't impressed by. I didn't "get it", the premise seemed a bit more sci-fi, which was misleading. I found the writing to be kind of chunky and there were so many added details that were completely unnecessary, I was skimming right from the beginning. I understand that the box is the driving force behind the story but it didn't give enough reasons for the kids not to ignore or toss it right from the beginning, I was waiting for that to happen. Hopefully others have better luck with this one. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the free preview in exchange for an honest review.

This book definitely was a little creepy but I wish some much more was explained and expanded on it. This easily had the potential the be a five star read

Honestly, I was expecting so much more. I didn't get it though, sadly.
Oh, and the ending? Yeah... Very bland and- I don't know, it had a great concept and all but the direction of the idea was just ugh.

When it came to this story, I couldn't quite make up my mind. Why? Because, I read through all of this, freaked out by the cube that somehow heard all, and read all. There was so much here to love, and be spooked by. But, as I kept reading I was hoping for a few answers, something to make the craziness a little more reasonable. Yet, those moments didn't seem to come.

At times, that can be a great way to continue a story, because the reader wants to keep going, to find out what it all means. Even so, when none of that seems to arrive, with continued questions 'til the end, and no answers, it leaves one wondering why it was worth the effort. That's not to put the story down, because throughout all of it, I was invested in the characters' stories, in what Aizel really was.

I wanted more of the mysterious cube, thinking that there was going to be something more sinister connected to it, maybe even a secret organization surrounding it. It wasn't any of that. Yes, there was a little more creepiness in that final room, but the outcome left me scratching my head. I really needed more than what was on those last pages. Even, if it was in a well-designed cliffhanger. I'd rather that, and a second part, than what those last chapters held.

***I received this copy from Bloomsbury YA, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.***

It seemed really interesting at first, but it lost my attention the further I got into it. By the time I was 3/4’s of the way done, I had to force myself to finish it because I was so god damn bored.

My only qualms with this book isn't a fault of the author but the publisher and how it was advertised. This is definitely not the dark and terrifying thriller that the cover and back blurb make it out to be - though still intense, it's more a coming of age story and message book about bring present and off of our phones. I still enjoyed it though, and think I will pick up more from Altebrando.

In Take Me With You by Tara Altebrando, nothing is ever as it seems, and an AI cube has the power to change the lives of the four high school students who find and must take care of it. With the stakes rising ever higher, this novel is a fast-paced YA read with plenty of twists and turns to keep you on your toes.

Set in a US high school just a little way in the future, Take Me With You builds a realistic yet vaguely futuristic world in which AI has capabilities none of its characters know how to navigate. Tara Altebrando uses projected technologies that are advanced enough to offer something new and innovative yet familiar enough to seem realistic and relatable. This book is a page turner, and a lot of that comes down to the fact that it is written to feel believable.

Take Me With You features an excellent diverse cast, and this diversity is an important part of the story. Told from the rotating perspectives of Eden, Eli, Marwan, and Ilanka, this book offers glimpses into four very different personalities and lives. The chosen four work together to hide and protect the device, all while keeping up with its worrying involvement in their lives and its ever-growing list of rules, lest disobedience lead to life-threatening consequences. Along the way, Take Me With You’s characters must also face a range of other struggles—xenophobia, grief, isolation, family pressures. In this fast-paced story, there’s something new on every page.

Take Me With You is a commentary on social media and technological control. It also features themes of friendship, discrimination, loss, and self-discovery. I’d recommend Take Me With You to fans of Indigo Owl by Charlie Archbold.

This book sounded super interesting, Lots of Black Mirror vibes. There is a lot i liked about this book. In general the plot is interesting. What kinda killed it for me was the characters themselves. So an interesting and terrifying concept that just missed the mark for me.
