Great to be back in the Kincaid-verse, but as a standalone story, I found this lacking. I wanted a lot more character development and a more satisfying resolution. Seriously, the villain (who never seems particularly threatening anyhow) just shows up to be killed at the end. All the work to figure out who the villain is and what they want happens off-page and the bigger issue of who's kidnapping shifters and why is left to be resolved in future books, I guess.

While set within the Kincaid Pack universe, this book stands on its own and serves as a bridge between The Kincaid Pack and the upcoming The Silver Oak series.
Overall, I found the book enjoyable, but there were certain aspects I felt could have been explored further. Quentin's reserved nature dominates much of the narrative, leaving limited room for scenes of him and Caden simply getting to know each other outside of moments of intimacy or conflict. While the sweetness and steaminess of their relationship were evident, I wished for more glimpses into their everyday interactions.
Additionally, Quentin's secondary, less-legal business venture remains shrouded in mystery, with little insight provided into its nature. This lack of clarity undermines certain plot points, such as his conversation with Rick towards the end , where his assertions about his reputation and actions ring somewhat hollow.
On a positive note, the book introduces several intriguing side characters whom I hope will be further developed in future instalments.
