In the first 1/3 of the book I was enjoying the pacing and was captured by the story. But then once all the reveals started happening (and oh boy was there a lot) the book went so down hill it fell off a cliff.  The reveals were super frequent and jarring and honestly made very little sense. It was like the author wanted to make sure that people simultaneously could not figure anything out AND be as simply written as possible. It didn’t work for me.

I was looking past the bad writing but then it just became hard to ignore. The two POVs are told in the exact same voice with absolutely no unique characterization. The internal monologue of each character is the same, including language used to refer to others.  The use of the word “lover” was so ridiculous. I bet if I counted that it would be almost 100 times in this 300 page book.

My last gripe (that I will say here) is with the relationship development between all the characters. Like nothing was developed at all, but we are told things at face value “she is my friend” or “she was in love with him” with so little evidence within the actual story.

Thriller as a genre is such a hit or miss and I think it can be very subjective for what people like. I personally did not like this at all but if you can ignore bad writing then you might enjoy this one.

The Drowning Woman by Robyn Harding is a beautifully plotted psychological thriller . The pace of this book is relentless and guaranteed to keep you reading on the edge of your seat with baited breath. Plenty of twists and turns plus satisfying ending made it a 5 star read for me.

I would like to thank Grand Central Publishing & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.
