Couldn’t resist reading this book immediately after I was gifted it & finished it in less than two days. Before picking up this book, I only knew Jennette from iCarly. It was incredible to learn more about who the real Jennette is, in addition to discovering one of my new favorite writers. I can confidently say after reading this book that she is an amazing author and I look forward to reading LITERALLY anything else she publishes in the future.

The story itself is an intense, emotional narrative with Jennette showing the world her trauma-filled childhood and the effects it had on her adult life. She writes in an extremely personal way, depicting a rawness that is rarely captured on paper. I’ve seen others complement this book for its commentary on the complex relationship between narcissistic mothers and their daughters; with Jennette using her personal narrative to depict the steps she had to go through to break away from the toxic cycles she had learned in her childhood. Reading about her experiences and the strength she had to reach where she is today was a truly memorable experience. She worked hard to get help when she needed it and to learn lessons that weren’t taught to her in her childhood. I think everyone could learn a lesson (or two) from this book & I encourage everyone to go check it out.

I really admire Jennette so much after this read- it’s my favorite book of the year and I’ve been recommending it to all my friends. I’ll now be reading all works published by Jennette & supporting her works. Thank you to the author for her honest account.

I would be glad my mum died if she treated me like that.... wtf. I feel like this is one of those books everyone who wants kids should read, just so they can see how much their actions as a parent will affect their child, even long after they're gone.
I appreciate the fast pacing, lack of fluff and straight-to-the-point nature of this memoir. Even though it was very cut and dry, the writing was still engaging, and I'm impressed that this is Jennette's first book! We definitely need more child stars to expose their experiences in Hollywood.
I can't get over half the things Jennette went through and grew up thinking was normal. I am so glad she is on a path of recovery now, but holy shit I would completely understand if she wasn't. I never watched Nickelodeon as a kid, only really knew about Jennette through the online memes but I'm glad I read this book! Happy to say it lives up to the hype!
