This was such a good read. A perfect YA read. What should had been the festival of their lives on a remote island soon turns into a survival story with no festival at all. Bring in the influencers. The famous. It soon becomes apparent there are those that want to leave and those to busy pretending to enjoy themselves to save their own embarrassment. Tense. Survival. Alot of people wanting answers and they're all stuck on this island with limited WiFi. Do they call for help and get rescued? Do they stay? What will their limit be? Will they all go mad? Gripping. Fast paced. Really enjoyed it. A very likeable main character too with her own podcast who aimed to interview a famous star about his past. Will she get her answers? A well deserved four stars. Highly recommend.

“Lord of the Fly Fest” review

Overall ⭐️⭐️✨/5
Spice: N/A (YA)

What do you get when you combine a classic retelling, Fyre Festival, characters whose names are basically the same as IRL, and a pick-me girl FMC who thinks she’s better than everyone else? You get this book. A thing I SO BADLY wanted to DNF. But mama didn’t raise no quitter
adventurous funny fast-paced

This book is so stupid, and so brilliant, I loved every page of it. This is obviously based on the failed Fyre Festival, and a lot of the influencers resemble real people too. I felt that Goldy managed to steer the story away from annoying territory by making the story self aware, and incredibly funny.

In the chaos is Rafi, a small podcaster looking to solve the mystery of a pop star's missing girlfriend. She sees an opportunity to make everyone stay so she can investigate, and things slowly start going insane from there. Hella Badid becomes a mysterious goddess like entity, people make make up out of literal poop and two people start a business selling bananas.

If you don't take this story seriously, it's so much fun. I was along for the ride right from the beginning and really enjoyed the twists and turns the story took - and there's non binary rep! - as Rafi realises her mistake and tries to get them off the island. The ending descends into sheer chaos, before wrapping up really well.

This book is VERY inspired by Fyre Fest.

I honestly bought this book purely for the cover, because it is really pretty! And even though I did like it, but I was hoping for a little more.
Also.. naming a ‘famous super model’ Hella Badid? That's a bit much lol

Not sure I would call this a thriller. It's more so-absurd-it's-a-weird-kind-of-funny? But with messages about beauty and social media.

“But no one has a perfect life, no matter how many filters you put on it.”

me every five minutes reading this book "omg this happened in lord of the flies"

Stupid smart, stupid funny, stupid good

Thank you to NetGalley for this audio ARC. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Admittedly I requested this because of the cover, however I found this hilariously wild. This is an incredibly satire YA thriller regarding our very real obsession with social media, influencers and keeping up appearances. It takes inspiration from the disaster that was the Fyre Festival and we see just how far some of these characters will go to make it look like everything is perfectly fine, whilst being stranded on an island with hardly any food, missing luggage and very unreliable Wi-Fi.

3.5 stars rounded down to 3!

I think this one fell a little bit of a victim to its own marketing after being described as a YA thriller, but it has a lot more satirical horror elements than anything. I love a book that pokes fun at the social media/influencer culture and this one was perfect to binge in a few sittings on a hot summer day.
