I just didn’t really get into this story. None of the characters felt very realistic and were all very unlikeable. Maybe I missed the point or something but the influencer culture felt unnecessarily exaggerated. Normally, I love a flawed character but these were just kind of silly.
While I didn’t enjoy the story, I thought the narrator of the audio did a wonderful job and the cover is very captivating.

A MAJOR disappointment. An annoying main character runs around an uninteresting island with other terrible people for her annoying reasons. There's no lord of the flies here except that they make their own annoying #FortheGram society. Idk where this trend of making influencers incredibly stupid came from, but this should hopefully kill it.
All the "satire" is way too on the nose. There's literally a main character named Hella Badid. And they do not let you forget about her, it's Terrible. It boils down to "if you care about Instagram you're vapid and stupid." Which can be true, but EVERYONE in this book is dumb as a rock. The main character is only slightly better but still so selfish and annoying and so wrapped up in her own motives it's impossible to like her. IDC if that's the point, it's not enjoyable to read and it's not saying anything special.

This book doesn't have characters, it's got awful caricature and none of their actions make any sense. The book feels desperate to have a commentary on influencers but provides nothing new, and goes no deeper then 'influencers bad and vapid'. Probably around the point one of them was smearing shit on their faces was where I gave up. Even if it didn't want to go for a proper commentary, or any kind of realism it could've been funny - It wasn't though. Every joke it presents has been told a thousand times before and it adds nothing.

I went into this with fairly high expectations based on the premise, and I really did think I was going to enjoy it. Unfortunately, this was a DNF for me at about 35%. Although I enjoyed the satirical take on influencer society, some of the characters were too dramatised and exaggerated; too on the nose. The main character, who is supposed to be the antithesis of those types, was honestly just as irritating.
I really wanted to continue but I just had no drive to do so. The plot wasn’t interesting enough, the characters weren’t likeable enough, and even the murder mystery aspect just fell flat and couldn’t hold my attention. An unfortunate DNF.
