another absolute banger. super fun and made me laugh many times. theatre lovers should also be aware that barrett wilbert weed is the narrator of the audiobook!
the mystery was enjoyable and the characters were great for the story. rafi makes for a great 'sane' protagonist in a fish out of water experience.
i guess i understand why this is getting mixed reviews. marketing for this one seems kinda wrong, as a fan of goldy's I knew what to expect in the form of a helping of satire, but this isn't really advertised as such.
don't read if you're not a fan of books where you may hate/dislike every single character & don't read if you're expecting some serious lord of the flies retelling.

This was meant to be a satirical combination of the Fyre Festival and Lord of the Flies, but it was cringey and not remotely funny. I’ve enjoyed Goldy Moldoasky’s previous books, but this one was a miss for me and I couldn’t force myself to finish reading it.
DNF at 20%.
* thanks to Macmillan / Henry Holt Books for Young Readers for the NetGalley review copy. Lord of the Fly Fest publishes August 30th.

This book was remarkable! Lord of the Flies meets influencer culture meets...Fyre Festival? There's not much to say that won't give things away, but this book is a MUST READ, CAN'T MISS, KNOCKOUT! It was absolutely hilarious in the way only oldy Moldavsky can be and the characters, world building, and pacing of the book were utter perfection. I received an ARC from NetGalley but all opinions are my own.
This book was funny but also not funny and good but also not good? That cover is captivating, though, and it is a very quick read.
This is... Very much a young adult novel. I should not have picked it up, my bad.
This book was a dud. It was somewhat funny at times but it felt like an imposter the entire time. Like the story was trying really hard to be something it wasn’t, something that already exists and it could never be. The descriptions of the island were well done, I could place myself there but that’s about the only good thing I have to say about this book.

If Lord of the Flies and Fyre Fest made a baby and gave birth to it on the backs of vapid influences we love to laughter about, that baby would be this book.
