I heard all that before and that made me want to read this book, but I kinda wish I didn’t. I knew going in that the fairytale was dark, and that Pan was kinda evil, but he was more than evil, he was cunning, mean-spirited, extremely violent, uncaring of others, and very forgetful. Just a unlikeable character. And if you like him, just think of how you would feel if you actually meet Pan, you wouldn’t like him that much now, would you?
The way the book was written was interesting to me because I felt like I was being told what was happening instead of being shown. The fact that the narrator was consistently in the book was interesting to, and I’m not sure if I liked it. The book was solely from a 3rd point perspective and I usually go for books with 1st person perspective.
This was a book that I didn't ever think about going to read, when I was reading it it was because I saw it in my room and remembered I wasn't finished yet. The book was also very heavy with descriptions for the world and such, and I felt like the characters and who they were as people, were the last thing that the author considered. It was just really wordy, to the extent that it was confusing to read the book sometimes. My brain could not comprehend what I was reading late at night for this book. However for the last 40 ish pages of the book, I felt like this writing worked for me and I enjoyed it.
Also this book was very racist, the way the Indigenous characters are treated and referred to is just bad. And the book is misogynistic as well. Wendy is only there to do the cleaning, and cooking, and take care of the boys and she doesn’t have much personality out side of that.
And I don’t know if I’m the only one who feels this way but Wendy’s and Peter’s relationship was weird to me (for many reasons) but mainly because it gave me incest vibes. Like Peter said he saw himself as Wendy’s brother, but they called each other mother and father and kissed multiple times. I just didn’t like it.
I do appreciate the book though because it gave us many iconic quotes that readers everywhere enjoy. If you do end up reading this book and enjoy it that is great but please have a cautious eye and acknowledge the problems that this book has.

Barrie refers to indigenous peoples as “redskins.” I know this was published a long time ago, but just want people to be aware of that because that it something that would probably not slide if it had been written today.meagangrace's review against another edition
