This sort of book is right up my alley-- complex plot told from several perspectives-- much like a Wilkie Collins novel in that respect. The ending's a little cheesy, but I still recommend the book.
I have mix feeling about and overall this book was forgettable. The cover of book was okay but nothing special and I didn't like charachers also I care what happened to them. I didn't like the writing style and it be better if it was two hundred pages shorter.
I'm being a bit generous with the 3 stars because although I found this mostly a slog, the writing was fine (although there were odd issues with the Kindle version I read, including many typos and missing words, but I can't necessarily put that on the author). Plus the disturbing twist at the very end did take me by surprise. Not saying it's a good twist - just surprising. The story was resolved eventually, but I still struggle to see the point of the whole thing.
Woah. Holy Surprise ending, Batman!
Another book where Pears tells a single story from multiple viewpoints, which is a style I think is unique and interesting.
Definitely worth checking out if you liked An Instance at the Fingerpost.

I gave this 150 pages, but it was just boring me to tears. Maybe i'll set it aside and come back to it at a later date....
Iain Pears is a brilliant writer, having read some of his other books. However, Stone's Fall could have used some serious editing because at almost 600 pages, it was unnecessarily long. I liked that the author went backward in time and the story was told from more than one narrator. But certain parts of the story moved very slowly and did not help to develop the plot. A compelling story that, if it had been trimmed down, would have gotten a higher rating from me.
3 stars.
3 stars.
I absolutely could not put this book down. I'd read another of Pears' books, An Instance of the Fingerpost, and I was hoping for the same kind of multi-level intricate narrative, and this delivered in spades and then some. I enjoyed it immeasurably more than An Instance of the Fingerpost.
To say it's a thriller about financial espionage does it an injustice, because it is very much more than that. In fact, the financial side of things is almost just window-dressing, which is an odd thing to say when it forms such a major part of the book.
I don't want to say too much more, because this is the kind of book you do not wanted to be spoiled for - let's just say, when I found out near the end what this book was really about and how all the various threads came together, it knocked me sideways, because I no way saw it coming.

Wow
I've never been more stunned by the last 10 pages of a book in my life.
AND it's written backwards which was amazing. I find myself wanting to go back now knowing what I know.
I love history so it was no problem to read....if you can deal with that it was a good book.
I remember loving his other one Instance of a Fingerpost also.........
