i built such a relationship with this book that finishing was like saying goodbye to a companion. The entanglements of Indian and British history, art, religion and class struggle emerge through the practice of medicine - diagnosis, intervention, remedy- all held in the simple act of tending to and caring for another being in need. There is so much expertise in the writing it reminds of the elegance of a surgical solution delivered with the sensitivity and compassion that youd wish from a practitioner or a friend.
