This was a quick and cozy read. I want to like it more, truly. It's not that I didn't enjoy it, I just think it could use some fixes. I loved the infusion of literature and poetry and history. But, there were parts that dragged a bit and honestly, I really wanted more from the romance. It's one thing to build tension but a whole different story of that tension causes the story to fizzle and the reader to get bored. The end felt rushed as well... and left me wanting more. Again, the romance, for all the build up, fell pretty flat at the end. It was a cute story and was a mostly fun read. Emma was pretty funny at times, as were her friends. I just wish there was more there to connect with.

I got this book as part of the Amazon First Reads promotion. I probably wouldn’t have spent on it after reading the synopsis and after finishing the book wouldn’t recommend purchasing it to others. This story could had some touching elements: the overworked older child, charming New England, and many characters who shared a love of literature but in my opinion it fell short. I immediately guessed the “twist” by about page 50 and then read another 250 pages for the main character to figure it out.

This is a romance novel written by someone who turns their nose up at romance novels. I hated most of the characters for the first 1/3 of the novel. It took forever to get to the conclusion that was completely obvious to everyone but the FMC. It was overall uneven but has some charming parts.
