Regurgitated version of You've got mail and i am not mad about it. Romcom that feels like a warm hug. Sweet, light, ends happily.

The premise of this book sounded fun, but the execution was really not there.
The plot was uber predictable, which made the main character's constant wondering and wondering about who her secret admirer was infuriating. I fully guessed all the "plot twists" more than 50 pages before they were revealed, but they same storylines just dragged throughout the entirety. Not to mention, the whole romance was honestly unbelievable.
Honestly, this could have been a super cute book, but I think it was underdeveloped and just kept circling back on itself, and forced a romance just to have a romance. I would have liked it better if it just focused on Emma's self-growth and relationship with herself.

Bookstore owner-to-be, Emma, is reeling when her parents tell her they plan on retiring and passing along their family bookstore to her and her sister was on board with this plan. All Emma has set out to do was successfully run the bookstore because that was always her role, while her sister went on to do other things, like start a family. In her almost tailspin, she embarks on an adventure to channel her inner Emily Dickenson in a secluded historical home for 6 weeks. During this time, she meets some wonderful people, as well as people she has met online through a bookseller group chat. I loved seeing Emma progress through her self discovery journey while balancing her family expectations and always around Davis. Along with the romance, there is a hint of mystery with who her secret admirer is who keeps sending flowers. Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the gifted eARC. All opinions are my own.

Emma got on my nerves.
Oh boohoo, her parents are giving her the bookshop she already basically runs by herself.
Poor baby, she can’t get a retired greyhound for a pet because she lives in an apartment, and she’s too dumb to google and find out that greyhounds are good apartment dogs, and it would also be perfect because she could keep her dog with her in the bookshop she owns downstairs!
Also, she’s dumb and gives a stray cat cream, even though cats are usually lactose intolerant. If there’s not a scene later on of her having to take care of a sick cat, then I blame the author for not doing basic research.
I’m not interested in reading about a thirty-one year old who is so unaware that she can't figure out ahead of time that introverts recharge differently than extroverts, especially when her friend already knows that Emma won’t enjoy the things she’s planned. This isn’t interesting to read about!
Also also, the “twist” is telegraphed so early on that it’s just frustrating for me to read Emma’s clueless interactions with Davis.
