This book was fine. Some things I loved, some were okay.

However that ending? With Michael and Beth and it is so cliche it made me roll my eyes every other word?
They do the “bad person is actually the best person from the book so far, but now they are actually big evil baddies! Ha! Tricked ya! Also! Let’s go down the laundry list of plot points for the bad guy to explain, audiences love that.”

Only then to get that dope ass letter from Laura???? Why on earth not cut out that stupid cliche scene and just have the last letter from Laura be a creative way to tell that same story. It would leave more to the imagination but god would it have been better.
Also the skip forward and everything is perfect now thing.

Also the author cannot know any addicts. She should’ve said Nicole was more like 18 months clean or something. Her being a fresh 30 days when all of this went down..? Off heroin….?? Idk. I guess it could happen but Nicole being a heroin addict for 20 years or so then a bank teller just letting her waltz in with no ID is unrealistic as hell. Nicole’s composure during this whole thing? While also drinking and barely taking enough methadone? Like zero research was put into this. Nicole didn’t have an addict trait at all other than occasionally being like “oh yeah I could totally shoot up right now. Sounds so good. Anyways, going to go face some really demons, ttyl!”

But the parents reveal and the chapters of Laura and her camcorder and all that was pretty good. I liked the siblings interactions too.

I found this book depressing as hell.  All of the main characters were flawed and mostly unlikable, but the plot was engaging.  Felt horrible about the neighbor…small town suck.
