Call Me Princess

Sara Blaedel

An average police procedural set in Denmark. The main character was a bit too flighty for me and I did not really care about her personal problems. The writing was a bit wooden but that might have been the translation.

No sé qué me motiva a seguir leyendo esta saga negra nórdica ¿? Jajajaja pero pos el chisme

Not a good book at all. Took way to long to get into the story itself (100 pages or so of a 320 page book), there was not enough character description and I didn’t enjoy the story line at all. It became predictable halfway through the book. I was confused for a majority of the book of who was who and what their role is in the story. Did not like the ending, it was very abrupt and didn’t necessarily tie any loose ends together. I also don’t know if because places were in Swedish that I couldn’t relate, but I definitely did not find any connections to the book and had a hard time imaging characters, places, etc. Would not recommend.

All in all, a good crime novel. The premise was a little brutal and hard to read -- rape and murder, but since the vast majority of the story was about the detective Louise's quest to find the bad guy, I was pretty into the story. Lots of twists and turns and not terribly predictable. Good story.

It took me such a long time to get through this book. I still don’t understand the title and how it’s connected. I also feel like there are few loose ends, like mentioning the culprits ex in the last chapter. It just didn’t do anything for me.
emotional mysterious tense fast-paced

Meh. This book was kind of a mess. I didn’t like Louise Rick at all, and I’m not sure how she’s supposedly viewed as a “tough female detective” when all she does throughout the book is have emotional breakdowns and angry outbursts at work, and also cannot cope with trauma victims in a compassionate, kind manner.

It was also way too long for the story. I swear that about 80% of the book is them trying to find the killer on dating sites — which is probably realistic (in terms of the lack of overall action/excess paperwork in a criminal case) but doesn’t really make for a compelling read.

I may try another Blaedel book at some point but right now, it’s nowhere near the top of my TBR. Ugh. It would have to be a much better written book to be worth my time.

A little formulaic, and I had a hard time connecting with Louise. However, the plot was great as was the pacing. I also loved that it was set in Denmark, it was nice to read a crime thriller set in an unusual country. 3 out of 5 stars.
