Pretty fun book for when you are in a little marvel phase. There were a few too many typos in here, but the story was good. I listened to half and read the book at the end. I recommend it!

Beloved characters are made flat. Dialogue isn't distinctive or imaginative; the characters don't leap off the page. While I appreciate the insight into the Red Room, and enjoyed the past to present shifts created by the debriefings, the story feels more focused on two children--yes, linked to Agent Romanoff, but still--than the book's namesake herself.
I liked this book, but I thought it hit a slow period in the middle. Toward the end, the momentum picked back up, and I really liked the way it closed out. The story definitely started out strong, and I found Natasha Romanoff intriguing as a character. I would have liked more character development, although I realize it was meant to be more of a plot-driven novel. I think I would have cared more about the two teen protagonists if I had known more about them, although I know some of the mystery behind them was intentional. In that regard, I think shortening the book would have helped the story arc. I also think it would have been more effective as a graphic novel. I would have enjoyed seeing the action scenes out in front of me, and it would have been visually engaging, I think. I also believe it could potentially be a good film. Overall, I think it was a worthwhile read, but know going into it that it is more plot-based and entertaining, but without a lot of character analysis or depth.
I like big complicated back-stories. But in the Marvel Universe they are kind of pointless because you can't trust them. And that's before you remember that the Marvel Cinematic and Comic Book Universes are different. So this book. Not a bad book - a pretty fast read. But not a lot added to the Red Room story. And the whole Ivan the Strange really added nothing. Heck it isn't even clear when Natasha was born. And maybe it shouldn't matter but it does. As it stands we have two other characters of note Ava and Alex - both interesting but neither really stands on their own. So in the end if basically just so-so, it could have been a lot better.
I really enjoyed this. The only thing I know about the Marvel characters is what I see in the movies. So I came into this knowing very little background about the Black Widow, which made me enjoy it more. It was very fast paced and I did not want to stop so I could find out what happened.
I was ecstatic to see a Natasha Romanoff's story. I am a big fan of Marvel & shield. As an avid comic booker reader I was a little disappointed but it is very exciting to see Marvel branching out into YA lit & books. Hopefully there will be more to come!
