This book just cemented Oluo for me as a powerhouse writer; one who should be supported and listened to. It also should be required reading for anyone who is white. I am so excited to read her next book, whenever it comes out!

"Perhaps one of the most brutal of white male privileges is the opportunity to live long enough to regret the carnage you have brought upon others."

“When we look at how [football] has embraced violence, undermined workers, and exploited people of color - what could be more American than that?”

This book was excellent and heartbreaking. After my experience serving as an elected official in state government and as part of a gubernatorial cabinet, I witnessed so much of this first hand and found myself yelling "YES! This is EXACTLY what happens!" way more often than even I expected. I highly recommend.

This book is really well-written, but also an intense read. I ended up skimming it because I wasn't in a place to sit with the heaviness of the threats & hold that white name supremacy/entitlement have over our society.

Well researched and informative. Personal stories really drove home certain points.
