This is my first Bartz and I’m so excited to meet her in May! This was such a fun and suspenseful novel that kept me guessing right until the very end. I’m so excited to dig more into Bartz’s backlist. This was so good.

**This is actually a 2 1/2**

Usually I stay away from reviews because I feel like I'm the only one who can judge what book I'll like. A lot of books I go completely blind into. This one I did see a few people say that it was unbelievable, the ending wasn't that twisty. For anyone reading this THEY ARE RIGHT. lol
Also I'd like to add this had about 30 chapters too many. It has 64 chapters. My eyes glaze over if it's over 40 chapters, this was a bit much but by the time I realized it I felt pretty invested.
I admit the first 15 chapters flew by ,they were really good and entertaining. The more it went on the plot became a little predictable but more than that it felt like it was dragggingggg.
The twist was a twist that I can say I didn't see coming but that's because it was so far in left field I legit didn't see it at all. It made sense? I guess? But it was like others have said, very unbelievable.
Also the actual ending, decisions that were made, and the loose ends that were tied up made me mad.

As a pro: The author does know how to spin a story and I will gladly read something else by her. I like her writing style and I can safely say that wasn't the problem. You can tell that she IS a good author, this book just wasnt it.

Virgo (the cat) was the best part of this story.

This was a fun and twisty thriller that kept me turning the pages well into the night! The story is set during the pandemic and focuses on Kelly, who reconnects with a woman she was friendly with in elementary school who invites her to come stay in her mansion in VA after Kelly ends things with her fiancé. Kelly is lonely and decides to take the risk by staying with Sabrina and her husband. Between the creepy neighborhood, suspicious neighbors, and the couple who seemed to be hiding something this book had a lot going on! This book will keep you on your toes and trying to guess what is going on until the very last page. Thank you to Random House - Ballantine, Andrea Bartz, and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on June 20, 2023.

I enjoyed Andrea's last book and was looking forward to this one. However, I was hoping for more "thriller" than we got. It was definitely more sexual than I was expecting! I could not stand the main character but was happy with her growth by the end. I was also surprised by the ending! If you're looking for a bit of a wild and sexual queer domestic read with a lil bit of thrill...maybe this book is for you!
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group/Ballantine Books for providing the digital copy in exchange for my honest review.

When COVID lockdown hit, Kelly finds herself in a new city, jobless, and trapped with a fiancée who has just called off their wedding. She seeks solace in her high school friend, who has so graciously offered her a room in her house in Virginia. Not long after arriving, Kelly finds herself wrapped up in their attention and they end up in bed together. While she loves this new relationship, she can’t help but feel something is off. When she learns that the last woman they were involved with is missing, she begins to get nervous that she might be next. Is this all too good to be true?

I was so excited to get approved for a copy of this one on Netgalley! I really enjoyed We Were Never Here so I had high hopes for this one. After reading it, I will say that it was a decent thriller but more of a slow burn suspense book. I am not upset by this, I just want to make sure people are prepared. This book also takes placing during the COVID lockdowns and while only briefly mentioned it was present. It was fun to have one of the main characters write smut and get called out by the neighbor – who’s an avid reader of the books. Oh, the irony. Most of this book is spent building up to the reveal, and it is a well written journey. I do appreciate the way that Ms. Bartz writes and I will continue to read her books.

If you are looking for a fun suspense novel set during the COVID lockdowns, then grab yourself a copy of this one out June 20th.

Thank you so much to the publisher – Random House Publishing Group – Ballantine, and Netgalley, @Netgalley for this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

Netgalley will be updated with more links once posted.
