Words can’t describe how much I hated this book. The main character had absolutely no sense whatsoever and made it painful to read, she was doing one stupid thing after another. Honestly I’m just proud I even finished this book.

Is it a smutty romance or a thriller? It was pretty fun to try to figure it out. A woman escapes the city and a rocky relationship during the pandemic to end up in a throuple with a high school friend and her husband. But the couple has a mysterious ex that turns everything around. This book is very different than the other book by this author I have read. Not sure I’m much of a spice fan.

hot damn, now this is what i call a thriller !
i was literally so invested in the story of this throuple, and was literally yummy yummy lapping up every detail

•characters:
i loved them all. every single person was so dynamic, all had secrets and layers and flaws and were all so lovable
the MC was very relatable, going through this journey of discovery her sexuality as well as exploring fluidity and non monogamy in relationships, the complicated power dynamics that come along with partnering with multiple people, etc etc i could go on and on
a little detail i loved, was the way the author would describe the feeling the MC got when she was about to put the pieces together or discover something, just some really good imagery there

•plot:
ummm yummy delicious no notes ???? a perfect concept to me, the pandemic details were a bit eh whatever to me, only because i’m reading this now in 2024 in a post covid world, so while i remember what it was like, i just don’t love when media is a little too heavy handed in its references
other than that, a woman getting out of a long term relationship goes to live with a wealthy couple and begins a sexual relationship with both of them, while all their dirty secrets start coming to light ???? i meannnnnn color me enraptured bc that’s a perfect concept to me

•twists:
i will say, i actually was surprised for the reveal at the end. i didn’t see it coming, and it was all very plausible to me in its explanations
my only critique, is that typically i like for there to be several 3rd act twists, and i was really hoping for one last rug swipe in the last 10 minutes
alas, i was disappointed. if it would’ve had a really good last twist i probably would have given it 5stars
i kind of guess you could say there’s a “twist” in the last 10 minutes, but really i feel like it was a little predictable and more so just provided context to the plot and timeline

•mood/atmosphere:
i thought it was very well done. i really felt like i was lounging by the pool of this mansion, mid pandemic, i could feel the tension of the married couple and the claustrophobia of the locked gates and cameras, i could feel the emotions of the MC while navigating this partnership she entered. this is almost a perfect book to me

•themes:
very rife with themes of exploring concepts of relationships outside of traditional ones, i really enjoyed its commentary on ethical non monogamy
also a bit of covid commentary sprinkled in there

overall, i’m a bit of a fiend for this book. will definitely be putting on my “own a physical copy” list

The beginning is a slow burn, but it starts getting better fast, and you will find yourself drawn to this very tense story.

It’s sexy, steamy, with wild twists that will make you gasp for air.

I enjoyed this book and its story, and kept me holding my breath, I couldn’t put it down.

Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for this advanced digital copy in an exchange of my honest review.
Coming out on June 20, 2023.

The characters were all so insufferable and repetitive. Hated the Covid aspect
