Man, you can tell Philip K. Dick was a mess of a man; his drug induced state just relays over to these pages…so..well? I do understand the belief that PKD is the type of author who wrote/came up with new thoughts with each page, but I still think that the message was relayed. The question is not “what is real,” but more so “what are you and what does that mean to me?” This book had me hooked from the very beginning, but mostly in a way I don’t fully understand. The animal narrative, the androids vs. humans vs. specials and most of all…the continuous debate on whether someone or something has empathy. I think I could have rated it a bit higher if I appreciated Mercerism a bit more - this one hovered over my head a tad bit at some points. I will spend a while reflecting on this book.

The author leaves a lot of the world building in your hands unless it comes to the sale and ownership of animals in which case he spells it out in exhausting detail

Absolutely one of my favourite books. The way it’s written, the plot and the questions it asks are all outstanding.

For me, this is a must read for anyone who enjoys science fiction.
