3.5 stars. Entertaining enough. Thought-provoking. The ending was slightly calmer than I expected. I kept waiting for a twist, but there wasn’t one, really. Easy to follow despite the futuristic setting and theme.

DADOES has a lot of world building ambiguity that pairs well with the emotional ambiguity of the entire book. there’s a lot about it i really like — quick pace, interesting world building, good premise. i don’t love some of the POV treatment but it’s nothing unsurprising.
if you like sci fi and blade runner, i’d definitely recommend it. easy read and especially fun in the age of AI.
it’s drastically different than the movie, and i feel like the movie is strictly worse off for not getting into some of the huge themes & pillars of the book…like the electric sheep! very interesting to see core parts of the book left out of the movie it inspired.
I wish we got to see more from literally any character other than Rick, and got to see them contribute in any kind of meaningful way outside of 1. their relation to Rick 2. their relation to androids. very little of what’s left of earth and its culture is explored, and while that does work with the intended ambiguity, i think more pay off was possible by exploring more.
