I was in the mood for a vampire romance and found this book through a recommendation on Reddit. It didn’t quite scratch the itch and I wasn’t into the plot overall so I decided not to continue

I liked this story, but it was also a little meh. I sort of felt like it was a vignette. There was something missing - like the heart of the story was never drawn out and it was not completed.

It was a little lighter on the plot than I prefer, but the spice was immaculate

Well, I've got a new book boyfriend, and his name is Amos. I also think lots of my fellow millennial women will relate REAL strongly to Tessa.

This just didn’t hit for me. The main characters both felt a bit lifeless. For what was essentially instalust/love there sure was a lot of back and forth. Literally. We were walking to work, then to her house, then to his house, then back again. The scenes felt almost formulaic.
It was like:
Walking✅
Feeding✅
Banging it out✅
Walking back home✅.
In between that was some conversation, but not nearly enough romance.
Structure aside, the over all story was okay. The most interesting part was definitely the little world building that took place. I would’ve liked to get a bit more into that, but they had to get their steps in. 🤷‍♀️

It was good. I like the relationship between the MMC and MFC. I loved how sweet Amos is. In terms of the consensual non consent... I enjoy the chase and catch parts, but I'm reaaaaally not into the rape role-play. Unfortunately it caused me to skim over the sex scenes which is usually my favorite part in a book! Still read this book because the aftercare and everything else about it was so good. For anyone who is worried tho, it is still VERY clear during the role play that the MFC is consenting even if her acting is showing otherwise. They do break character here and there that confirms it. i.e. trying to hide smiles, inner monologues, telling eachother affectionate words in between.

Ok so...I went to Reddit and found a thread all about smutty books. I left a comment saying exactly what I was looking for and a ton of people recommended this book (thank you, beautiful book people).

I was looking for a vampire romance novel with decent writing, but also a lot of smut, and I wanted the male character to be nice and kinda intellectual, like not a stereotypical macho annoying guy, but very primal in the bedroom if you get my drift. This is definitely the situation in this book. I really liked the characters. Anyway, my consensus is...

The smut is smutting. This book was definitely what I was looking for.

A few things:

There is some CNC but the author does a fantastic job of giving a trigger warning in the beginning of the book. The characters also talk about exactly what they want/what is allowed and adhere to that - it's great! So it's also a great example of good communication in that type of relationship.

Some of the spicy scenes felt a little repetitive. There's a LOT of the same type of spicy thing. So if it's not your thing, then this book might not be for you.

It's certainly not Shakespeare, but the writing style was great for what it is. And let's face it, you're there for smut anyway.

Also you don't have to read the books in any order - this book can act as a standalone and it pretty much wraps up ok at the end. You can dive into this one first if you want.

I'm excited to read more from this author.

Very enjoyable paranormal romance. I enjoyed how vampires are in the world. It was spicy. I found it interesting they waited so long before sex.
