It was a bit of a slow read but once I switched to audio, it really sailed. That whole ending was perfection. Except that one thing that I'm surprisingly really bummed about.
I have so many highlighted bits in my ebook bc it was so hilariously good and that ending withInej breaking into Pekka's house and replacing the lion eith the crow? Chef's kiss

Wow!! This book is awesome!!
The whole plot is so intricate and detailed, allowing for twists without feeling cheap or misleading. All the characters are wonderful (I think I have a particular soft spot for Wylan and Inej). Their deep and meaningful personalities and backstories are skillfully written. Additionally, their friendship/ found family relationships with each other are messy and wonderful and real-feeling.
I’m excited to read the King of Scars duo hopefully sometime over the summer. Especially now that I heard Nina’s story will continue there.

Absolutely incredible. Hands down possibly one of the best, most stunningly written books I've read in a while, if ever. I wish I had the way with words Leigh has to do the series justice in this review, but alas, I do not. So a loving ramble will have to do. 🩷🩷
I mean, in the first book, I tried to keep track of what plans were explained and which weren't, because "you can't fool me to stress about the outcome of this because *i know your tricks* !!" but in this one Leigh managed to pull the rug from under my feet Every Single Time I regained my balance (and sense of calm) lol.
I thought I already loved the Crows in the first book, but then again, they didn't Crack Straight Open like they did in this one. The "found family" really comes to a head, and seeing the characters you thought "always saw an out", suddenly realize they DON'T ?? Seeing the stable, reassuring "we can fix this" characters break DOWN ??? Seeing the characters air out all their insecurities to the world because they KNOW the others will be there to catch them when they fall? Now THAT's some good shit alright- 🤧👏👌
This book seems to do everything right. From the foreshadowing, to the "leaving things in the dark", to the slowly but surely let you understand their backstories bit by bit, the [REDACTED], it all is so easy to point at a "writer's top ten tips"-chart and go "oh yeah Leigh does that in Six of Crows!". Not to mention the beautifully thematic metaphors and similies to go with each specific character. Or the little details telling you so much about the rest of the world in a single mention of a pastry or the color or material of someone's vest. I'll be able to rant about this for a LONG time, and can't wait to get my own copy of this one so I can mark everything down as a "guide on writing".
All in all, absolutely beautiful. Despite all the heartache, I had an incredible time. This duology will stay with me for a good while, until I re-read it again, which is probably gonna be not to far into the future lol 🩷🩷
