I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.
I feel terrible saying this, but I hated it.
I’m 100% a fangirl, and I love reading boybands stories, but this was such a freaking mess! It feels like the author wanted to say that BIPOC folks have it worse than white queers and the only way he found to do this was having a bunch of cardboard cutout side characters using the fact that they’re BIPOC as the aching moments.
And then there’s the “romance” that was so full of red flags I am amazed they expect readers to just run with it. At most they had sexual tension that could have been resolved by sleeping together, but I can’t bring myself to believe the actual romance. And the resolution is too quick to be realistic.
I also wonder if all the references to having a boner were necessary, but maybe that’s an allo guy thing…
