DID NOT FINISH

DNF at 36%

my patiences and sympathy for her ran out as she continued to seek refuge in alcohol and casual sex and considered no one but herself.

The part I did read was drawn out and a tad higilty pigilty.

I enjoyed her other book The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, so it's a bit sad that I couldn't get into this.

Every time I'd thought that a character (especially Esther) had ventured too far beyond the bounds of likability, they proved that despite the flaws that their grief produces, they are trying
Abelone and Erin are two of my favourite characters ever and I shall not be elaborating
I usually detest books with one of the plot beats that appears in this, but it's very well-crafted and delicately approached, so rather than feeling just generally icky and strange to fixate a plot on, it feels very human and understandable

This is an extraordinarily good book about traumatic grief, personal transformation, and the relationships between women. Due to the nature of Esther's journey to unearth the secrets of her sister Aura's journal and life, as well as her introspection into her own life as she begins to heal, the book is repetitive at times, but it is an indication of Esther's fixation, not poor writing at all. I loved everything about this book SO MUCH.  I'll be back to leave a more detailed review later!
